so we saw a cute 2-feet tall palm tree in the front yard of a neighbor, and he told us he got it from flower world. though it's a tropical tree, it seems to grow well in seattle =D
i think that would be what we want for our front yard too along the driveway :)
so parents got the ticket again - they will be coming even earlier this time - may 12th. however, they have a lot of trips this time because 3 cousins are getting married in Sept / Oct
Tentatively, i'll drive them up to attend the first of these 3 - in Vancouver BC in early Sept. Then, they will fly from there to Toronto to attend the 2nd one a week after; Then, they will fly to New York to attend the 3rd / last one [ which i may fly to join too so i can fly back with them ... tentatively...]
and to end the year, my 4th cousin is getting married December in HK - that, pretty sure i cannot join, but parents, again will fly back in time to attend that too. ;)
The death has struck like A tidal wave. You are cut loose from your moorings. You are all but drowning in the Sea of your private sorrow. The person who has been part of Your life is gone forever.
not the best day for yard work, but at least it does not rain, it is not too cold, and alex is at a wedding - so i decided to spend some time on the yard - or, the fallen leaves that we haven't been doing anything about since november...
trying to do it ourselves 2 weeks ago was a failure - because there were just too many, so we ended up buyingthis tool.
i used it to work on our front yard for ~ 1 hour. it was really performing very well - it blowed the leaves away pretty quickly, and vacuuming with it wasn't too hard at all. The only downside is, it's pretty heavy after holding it for a while (probably because i'm an only-less-than-5-3-female) .
the mulching functionality is pretty amazing - the leaves mulched were really fine when i poured them into the yard waste bin :P 10:1 ratio - it really does what the product spec says!
because it could do a bigger damage than u'd ever imagined...
==========
so ... last nite, we parked our subaru on our driveway .... and apparently, forgot to turn off the wiper.... and this morning, it's all icy... and as soon as we "start" the engine, the wiper moved immediately - and
%#%#&**(
with the ice - of course the wiper broke immediately. that ruined my mood for the first few hours of my day already - but i still thought ...just a wiper.
so alex took a break from work, and went to get a new wiper, and put it on again.....and the motor does not work anymore!!!!!!
so we indeed broke the MOTOR of the wiper, not just the wiper itself :(
sigh..
what does this mean?
that means i have no cars to drive tomorrow (when alex has a wedding to shot)
our recent project? after successfully converting the bathroom's exhaust fan's switch to be a timer one - we attempted to work on our garage for ...
our garage door opener's light does not work, so the whole garage is in its dark-dark-darkness whenever we parked our car ... which, is kind of "dangerous". For the fact that our garage door opener is "born" in 1976, we cannot find anything from anywhere to "fix it".... so... we came up with this idea of....
converting the light switch in the garage to be motion-sensor... so it'll turn on by itself ! cool idea, we thought - but after changing the switch to be one that is motion-sensor, we got sparkles :D hehe.. scared us ....
so we gave up that idea, and trying to convert it back to its original form - but it was not easy... the original switch is old old old... and can't be put back again. So, we end up going to HD and get a new one... and put it back on. since the original switch is a 3-way switch, i had to do some research on the web (thanks for euqus for his info...) .. and after 2 nites of attempt [ plus a 7am visit to HD yesterday... ], we got everything working again!!!
so, the next step was ... what should we do then to fix our original problem?
after a lot of searches .... .. i was lucky enough to find a plug that can be controlled by my garage door opener remote, so *Cool*!!! So, everything is done now! I plug that into the wall plug of my garage, and plug a lamp in ... and now, whenever i use my remote to open the garage door, the light lights up!!!!
i'm all satisified now....
next project? it'll be the yard work. Thinking to trim one of the tree that is growing too close to our house...
because... i'm so busy with work. we are told to expect a crazy Q1 and Q2 at work. weekend & weeknites are unavoidable...
and then, another friend asks - does it worth it?
no, for sure.. but do i have a choice in this computer industry?
then, my manager ask me - how do i think about my job? do i feel like coming to work? what is my career goal....
and surprisingly, i told him i am very motivated to come to work, despite the fact that this is the most unorganized, unsystematic companies i've ever worked with in these 8 years...
while so busy at work, we tried to change our life styles a bit this year ... unlike last year that we spent so much time on work, computer, or doing things on our own.
we have been watching a number of VCDs we got from HK lately - they all made me cry so badly because of the sad stories, but actually - we did learn a lot from the movies .
we will remember never to wait til tomorrow to do something for your love ones, because they will not be always around....
we will remember to enjoy our life journey instead of rushing ... because there is not take-2....
.... .... ....
and, we watched a movie with some brothers & sisters two days ago. http://www.endofthespear.com It was a very meaningful one and we got something from watching it...
